A buzzing yet personal place, this is a must. It's got so many treasures, you'll need a whole day to investigate, to give you an idea I spent 3 hrs alone on the top floor and about 2 again on the bottom, i recommend also getting a quick tour and pay the extra to visit the mummy rooms, they're interesting.

Having visited Cairo in 1973 we found that the display was in London. Seeing it in 1990, having been in the tomb, 2 days earlier in the vally of the Kings, the display was more than we expected, no photographs or other representations can prepare you for the awesome majesty of the display, you are simply stuned into silance.

The place is gorged with amazing objects but most artefacts are not titled,dated or described. I rented an electronic audio guide but it was a total waste of money.
