The Magic Bean is an eclectic hostel, restaurant, and nightclub. The rooms are less fancy than some hotels, and you share a bathroom at the end of the hall. But if you mainly use a room to sleep, the value is tremendous. The restaurant is frequented by expatriates, employees of foreign corporations ...
We were going to have along day ahead of us, since we were going horsebackriding earlier in the day. We went to Magic Bean and we ordered these pancakes that had nuts and bananas. THEY WERE HUGE! I personally coul only eat one. It was really good. I would love to go back there again. They also sold real fruit smoothies and drinks, yummy!
Sort of decent in all regards, decent food at reasonbale prices in a Friday's atmosphere catering to foreigners. In the states it would be just okay, in Quito it is a nice, non-threatening spot for tourists with acceptable food at acceptable prices away from the wilder party scene down the street. Provides light entertainment most weekends, good for families.

Food was delicious, reasonably priced, excellent vegetarian selections. We went twice during our 3 day visit to Quito. Great location! Cute coffee takeout window. Hostel attached. Very international crowd.

Do you believe in Magic? BEAN!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/21/07
The magic bean was a great place to relax becuase it was much more secluded and quite than the many club like places that fill the financial district. The bastidos were incredible and one of my favorite drinks along with the frozen coffee drinks. The breakfast was great huge portions but great price. I would recommend bannana pancakes or the bagel ...

Great place to relax in Quito
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/17/07
During the time I spent in Quito, I knew I could always rely on the Bean for a good (and filling) meal, great service, and good company. I was traveling alone and met lots of fellow travelers with interesting stories to tell - and with its well-washed salads, veggie burgers, delicious juice drinks, and outstanding vegetable kabobs, this is a ...

The Best Place in Quito!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/06
The Magic Bean Hostel have a pleasant and safe stay.
They are Located in the Heart of Quito’s Tourist District!
The Magic Bean our number one goal is to make sure that you, guests, enjoy your time here. With that in mind, They make every effort to serve tasty meals in a friendly, relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
I went to the Magic Bean for lunch instead of breakfast as recommended, but I was disappointed based on what I had read in the reviews. It was pretty average food compared to the other restaurants in the area. It's definitely a "haven" for backpackers who want to relax in an international environment, but I wouldn't recommend it ...
The best breakfast in Quito! I especially loved the banana macademia nut pancakes. Portions are huge; you may not need to eat lunch. LOVED it!!!

memories from the past
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/29/06
I visited The Magic Bean twice in 1997, when I was travelling through South America with my best friend. I still long for those special evenings sitting in the garden of the hotel, drinking beer and wine and sharing stories with fellow travellers. I am glad it still exists (why not, I ask myself) and hope it is still the same as I can remember it. Would realy like to go there again some time and bring back these memories!
