I really dislike Manly's big brother (Bondi Beach) because it is so crowded and such a tourist scene. Manly definitely has a more local feel and there are lots of great shops and cafes in the area. Its more of a place to spend the day, rather than just "go and see" (as many do at Bondi). So sit back, have a big brekkie and watch the ...

Manly 1991

I was at Manly n August 1991. For me it was nicer than Bondi but too cold to swim without a wet sit, only surfers were out. The pine trees by the hotel were gorgeous. Hope to return one day.

The Very Best

This has to be my favourite beach in Sydney - there are shops nearby and there are often events on or next to the beach. It is friendly and a must go for visitors to Sydney!

Wonderful

I loved the crowd. I know it sounds weird but i do... The people are friendly and i think the scenery is wonderful. I loved every little thing and i would go again in an instant.
The ferry ride over sets the mood. It's like being near the city but miles away. go to Oceanworld, which is right near the ferry. It's the best aquarium. They have the shark dive there also. I did it and it was the most amazing experience!

Returning soon!
By Manly 4 Me, 08/05/07
First time to Australia, I visited Manly where I went almost everyday. Loved walking to Shelly Beach. The sculptures in the wall and benches make this a place to sit and relax. Great shops and restaurants to dine or grab a quick cup of coffee. The best part is that I am returning in a couple of weeks. I really hope it can keep the ambience.

A beautiful beach, even in autumn...a great feel to the area with lots of restaurant choices! Was recommended to me by Australian relatives as a 'must see' - now I know why. I will definitely receommend it to others and go back one day.

A local's point of view

Manly is Sydney's best beach area with good surf and clean sands. Plenty of lifesavers are there to ensure your safety. After enjoying the beach head to one of the many great pubs or restaurants and party till late. A great place to visit short or long term. Make it your base if staying in Sydney with the heart of Sydney only a short but picturesque ferry ride away. I'm lucky enough to live here in a great place

Manly, Australia

What a cool little Yuppie type town. You can take the ferry out of Darling Harbor in Sydney or drive if you have a car. They have all kinds of little shops and places to eat along with great beaches. If you drive you can drive out a few more miles and see the old fort that was used in WWII to protect the entrance to the harbor. Just a good place to go and get out of the busy Sydney hussel and bussel for a day.
