Making a trip out was a fantastic decision. The unique landscape really accentuated the harsh conditions with which the original Benedictine monks would of been exposed to when building the monastery. For those with an interest in history, geography and theology I highly recommend the trip to New Norcia.
I would also recommend that you take your time by spending a night in one of the surrounding towns like Toodyay.

New Norcia is a very small town with not a great deal to do, however the tour around the town proved to be the highlight. Such an interesting history and wonderful historical buildings. The food they produce is good too. you have to try the New Norcia cakes and produce.
Just a tip, make sure you wear a hat and bring some water and sunscreen. Not a great deal of shade available on the tour and is fairly uncomfortable on a hot day
