It is a beautiful walk along the canal with several bits of history along the way. You can enjoy the calmness and the veiw of the downtown buildings along with getting plenty of exercise. If your looking for shopping go to the mall. Several places to eat on the east end of the walk including Bottom's Up Pizza!
i walked the canal walk at night so there wasn't really much to see until the summer but i still enjoyed it!! it was a nice romantic walk with just my boyfreind and i and it was really quiet. i enjoyed learning a little more about the canal walk with all the bits of info they have as you walk. I can't wait to go back and be able to enjoy the mini boat rides that they have to offer!!
I expected shops, restaurants, and a bustling area. Instead what I got was just a brown canal, a couple historical tid bits, lots of solitude, and not much else. I did get a lot of exercise because I walked a lot trying to find something interesting to see. Not much here. On the far end, theres a bridge to Belle Island. That was ok, but then again, there's not much there unless you want to bathe in the James River.
