About 11 years ago I lived in San Antonio for a spell. I passed the Alamo everyday to and fro work. Finally, on a day off, a friend and I decided to go in.
Words can not express my utter disappointment. It was completely empty save for a few flags! There was a little museum attached but the Alamo itself was barren. If I would have paid to ...

Great place to go!!
By SHERRY B, 03/16/07
I really enjoyed this place. I enjoy history and now plan on watching the movie The alamo to see what happened there. I would definitely go back there again. It is best to go early in the AM as i am sure it must be hot in the afternoon. also go when there are not alot of school groups going through it. also small children would not like it inside as they encourage everyone to be quiet inside.

Hallowed ground
By terri h, 03/16/07
It is totally free and hallowed ground...how mych more can you ask for! It is, maybe surprisingly, right in the middle of dwntown. It is quite something to see an entire town built around a sacred place!
This was like any other Spanish Mission but more crowded and with Davey Crockett's rifle. It's so crowded, commercialized and under the shadows of big buildings that it takes away from the meaning. Good luck finding parking in this area.

Interesting Place To Visit
By I Am Just Me, 11/25/06
I enjoyed visiting the Alamo. There is a lot of history to be learned. I came away knowing more about what happened than I did in school. I hope one day to visit again.

The Cradle of Texas History
By Dustin, 10/16/06
We've all seen the movies and we've all heard the legends. Everyone at some point in their lives has heard the heroic tale of the battle of the Alamo in one form or another. I'm a native Texan and from grade school up we were taught about The Alamo. But to see it was quite a bit different. To know that so many brave men died on that ...

Not for small children
By manciebeck, 09/07/06
We really enjoyed what we were able to see. We went with another family and together we had two - five year olds, a two year old, and a one year old, as you might imagine that equals not being able to see much of anything. From what I did see I was very touched and moved. It's not everyday that one gets to stand in a place that had such an ...

Remember the Alamo
By chua_herbert, 08/22/06
After a visit to San Antonio, one will surely remember the Alamo. Don't expect any grandeur architecture, as this mission/fort looks inconspicuous in comparison to the high-rise office structures around Alamo Plaza. Admission is free, so a visit to this "Cradle of Texas Liberty" is a must for all history-buffs. While you are there, ...

Nice surprise.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/06
Definitely a must see in San Antonio. But definitely get there early. We got there soon after opening and though a crowd was gathering, at that time there was no line, unlike soon before we left. The area is a little commercialized, but the Alamo has been well maintained and improved. We appreciated the gardens and outer areas more than the rebuilt mission buildings themselves. See the Menger Hotel while you're there.
