Very fun place to take the whole family... There is plenty to see. Probably too much, you might have to go a few times to see everything.

Personally, I could hardly consider this "one of the nation's finest" but its not bad. Just not enough exhibits or things in more natural settings.

Our family visited this zoo last year and really enjoyed ourselves. It was sad to see a beautiful black panther isolated in a small cement cage, but other than that, we had a great time. The zoo has a special exhibit for butterflies. My daughter was able to hold a moth as big as an adult's hand! We'd go there again, but would avoid the panther cage.

The San Antonio Zoo is enjoyable for a family outing. You can actually see it in a day. There are many interesting animals, though birds and monkeys are in more traditional cages. The landscaping is very nice, and there are some lovely sculptures in the park.

Our granddaughters especially enjoyed the Butterfly Garden (open spring to fall) ...

I have been to many zoo's around the country, and this zoo is average at best. With a city this big, I expected more large animals. Been to this zoo several times at different times of the year and depending on when you go you will see few or many animals. There have been a few times that I've visited and the animals tend to be asleep or hidden and other times they are all out. A friend and I took our kids today and over half of the zoo was either closed down due to construction or blocked off for some type of work. Every time that we have been there is some kind of construction but today was awful! How do you explain to small children that they can't see any of the animals that they want?

The Bird Department was wonderful.It was clean and I loved the Hixon and it was clean. The free flying birds were wonderful. The girls working in there were not frindly though. The curator of Birds needs to train the staff. maby he needs to do a walk through.

The San Antonio Zoo is great. My daughters loves it. It is worth the trip and cost. The food is not bad and not as expensive as other parks.
I loved it because it is fun and educational.
