The experience was unique. Not someplace you rush through. It is a place to be reflective. At first it felt bleak and sad, but as we stayed and took in the full experience we left with a sence of peace and hope. Natural light filters in from openings in the ceiling and as the light changes you notice subtle changes in the paintings. We were glad we went and glad we stayed long enough to enjoy the full experience.

I would not recommend driving any significant distance just to go unless you really like modern works. It is a great addition to a day trip though.

The atmosphere and the building are a huge part of the appeal for me. I suggest checking out the Menil if you are in the area.

The Chapel is given meaning and solemnity by the art. Rothko's works communicate directly, a description isn't really necessary.
The space is dim, with obscured light from the ceiling which you only realise is natural light when the clouds go over.

It was different. It's for a mature audience. The experience was peaceful and soothing. The painting created a sensual feeling of acceptance and express a political and generic religious statement.

Stunning. Get into the corner pieces first. Leave the black framed side pieces for last.
