I LOVE THIS ZOO WHEN I LIVED IN HOUSTON I WOULD GO TWICE A YEAR .NOW THAT I LIVE IN THE VALLEY I GO ABOUT FOUR TIMES A YEAR.IT'S KOOLMY KIDS LOVE IT, MY SON WITH AUTISM LOVES IT THE MOST.
We came for 4th of July but knew it would be crowded that day, so we went on Saturday, it was still crowded but the flow of people was great and different paths available never made you follow like a herd of cattle. Lot of animals to see and great kids area, my 3 yr. old loved. It will be back again.

I went to the zoo on memorial day while it was free and it was like being in a pig pen i hated it and didn't bother to see the rest of the zoo. There was no one there to answer your questions. The signs didn't make much sense. Half of the animals were either sleeping, hiding , or not showing there face.
When I visited many of the animals were not in their cages. The clerical employees complained they had had resumes on a computer website and had been Shanghai'd into service, had been assigned to condos, and did not get paid. They had to go on welfare to get the money for gas to get to work and were "not allowed" to get snacks at the snack bar.
Later they had an ad in the Houston Chronicle for the zoo jobs.

Not bad at all

Other reviews posted didn't give this zoo much credit. But the most recent post was last year so here's a new one! It was our 1st time there & we went in 95 degree heat. There are several cooling fans thru out the zoo (the kind that mist you w/cool air & water) to keep cool. There is plenty to see. Our kids enjoyed the ...

Best children's zoo!
By planomom8801, 09/01/05
The Houston zoo has one of the best Children's zoos I've ever seen. My son can spend the entire day in there!!! He's 4 years old. I grew up in Houston when the zoo was free to get in and just a nasty ghetto. I now live out of town but visit the zoo everytime we come to Houston!!! The changes they have made are wonderful. It is a ...

i enjoyed many aspects of the zoo but not all.
By cindy, 08/28/05
Perhaps the zoo is undergoing alot of changes or renovations, but I was slightly dissappointed at my most recent visit. I still had a wonderful time but the amount of animals has greatly decreased.I know a natural habitat is better for the animals but for the most part the zoo looked overgrown and unmaintained. As I stated earlier,I still enjoyed my day, my memories of past visits were just better.

Small, but pleasant
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 02/15/05
If you need to remind yourself that there are still real wild animals, here among the freeways, this is the place. Unfortunately, grounds are limited, so animals are more cramped than some other zoos, but overall walking about the winding, intersecting pathways makes for a pleasant afternoon.

Zoo is decent
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 09/06/04
For $7 it isn't that bad. The layout is horrible, just like the freeway system in Houston. You many times will find yourself going the wrong way to the attraction you want. Nothing to write home about here, although I have been the the SF and San Diego zoo, so the comparisons are certainly not fair.
