Do not go here unless you want to see declining real estate! I was heavily disappointed.
From the reviews, I thought this was going to be a hippy place to visit. Not anymore. According to people who I talked to, it has seen better times. Many of the stores/galleries are now boarded. They have moved to Uptown/Oak Lawn area. I would find it scary to visit Deep Ellum in the evening.

We drove through on a Sunday afternoon and the place was dead. I expected an artsy environment, but there seemed to be trashy art and garbage all over. Couldn't imagine it as being a hip place to shop or visit.

I love Dallas, it isn't like you think it's going to be but it was fun and the people there were very nice. It is chock full of great little whole in the wall type places with good food and great music, you just have to know how to find them. Dallas is a city for residents, not tourists. You have to know someone who lives in Dallas to see much of it. There are hundreds of small neighborhoods but they are spread out because they had plenty of room to expand. Now Dallas is surrounded by suburbs so the inner city neighborhoods are being redeveloped. Angry Dog...Bar/Restaurant...mainly a good place to go and eat in the evening maybe before or during happy hour...They have the best burgers! They have the best seasoning in their fries!

I really love Dallas and try to visit often. I don't do the touristy stuff anymore and I still love it! Adairs is a great little dive, cheap beer, and writing all over the place. If you see a bunch of stuff about the Colts it was probably me!!
