  • The other review say it all
    By Jake D, 09/15/09
While I give them credit for the rescue part, the trails were terrible and pushing a stroller around made matters worse. The cages sucked, the water was green in most of the cages...Native to Austin so it sucks that our zoo sucks so much

  • A Mid-Grade Zoo
    By AlaynaC, 08/17/08
The staff and keepers, hands down, were incredibly friendly and nice. The price to get in is great as well as what concessions they do have. This is a nice zoo to go to if you are in the area, but nothing worth driving out of town for. Though all of these animals are rescue animals and the conditions they are in now are much better than their ...

  • Very Enjoyable!
    By "Rose", 07/06/08
I am so glad I did not believe everything I read on these reviews. Because some of these people did not give them a fair review. The Staff was very helpful and friendly. Keeping in mind that these animals are rescues, and possibly treated unfairly somewhere along the line before coming to Austin Zoo. Also, not to mention what it must cost to feed ...

  • Great Cause
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/14/08
While the staff is generally unfriendly I enjoy visiting the animals. A lot of the reviews talked about how ragged the animals look; what they don't say is that ALL the animals are rescue animals. If they are a bit rough looking it's because someone else tried to keep these poor wild animals as pets. It's a fun day trip. Wear closed toe shoes and sunscreen as they walkways are not paved and there is not a lot of shade.

  • Amazing Day Trip!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/09/07
I loved it! They have about 300 animals; lions, tigers, monkeys, bears, cougars, leopards, jaguars, binturongs, huge tortoises, a whole reptile house, and more! It's a perfect place to take you'r children, you can't find one other place in Austin to take you'r children for FOUR dollars. They are a non-profit organization though, the ...

  • Do Not Go
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/06
This run down facility is poorly managed. The staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. I will never go back. I feel bad for the animals but the abuse you take from the staff, especially the Director and Assistant Director, is not worth the effort.

  • Horrible zoo and horrible staff
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/06
We went to the zoo in October and I agree with all the other postings. There are very few animals and the staff is extremely unfriendly. Do not ask them any questions. We made that mistake and were treated very poorly by the staff. They want to take your money and not deal with you. The place is run down and the animals look like they are not in ...

  • Noble Cause, Bad Management
    By Melissa, 10/07/06
We took our children today for their first visit to the zoo. The grounds were in sad condition and the enclosures for the animals were tiny. We sympathized with the fact that this is a non profit rescue organization. However, our encounter with the director and associate director have left us unwilling to ever return. After our visit, we entered ...

  • Awful
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/12/06
I took my son here about a month ago, because we had been to the San Antonio and Fort Worth zoos and he loved them. We live in Austin and so we decided to head down there. I was excited about the fact that all of the animals had been rescued, but upon arrival, saw that the places they were kept were disgusting. The areas were not well kept, the ...
