don't waste your gas or the entry fee to go here. i can't believe they even call it a zoo. the owner is whacky, too. it was an overall disappointment and a waste of money.

It was TERRIBLE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/17/06
I wouldn't recommend this zoo to anyone. We drove from Fort Hood and we had a hard time finding it to begin with since it seemed to be in the boonies. Second of all, the price for what we got in return was terrible and this isn't a zoo, it's more of a refuge for animals. Very disappointed and my kids we not happy campers at the end.

Drive to San Antonio
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/01/05
We first moved to Austin two years ago and have three small children so the first thing we did was look up the zoo and purchase an annual membership. Big mistake! The cost of admission to the Austin Zoo is too steep for what you get. I would suggest driving to San Antonion if you want a real zoo atmosphere.
Also, I would like to point out how ...

Very Depressing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/05
This is not at all what we thought it would be, I have been to zoo's all over Texas and I must say this is the worst one I have been to.. The enclosures are pitiful, and the animals look sad. I dont' think that they should call themselves a zoo.. It was a very depressing visit, and I will not bring my kids back.

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/26/05
I was very disappointed because when I think of a zoo I think of a variety of animals. There was not much of a variety there. The place was relatively small. The train ride was the best attraction and even that was a disappointment. I expected to see animals on the train ride. There was just the Hill Country to look at which isn't bad but ...

Austin petting zoo
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/15/04
I took my sisters to the Austin Zoo. It was mostly goats and horses. They did have a few exotic animals, but this is mostly a petting zoo. We took the train around the hill country, and they had painted cutouts of aliens and ufos to make it more interesting.

Hippie Zoo
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/27/04
This zoo captures the "hippie" flavor of Austin because it's animals are all rescued instead of taken from the wild. Many of the monkeys are from research labs; their stories will break your heart. There's a large petting zoo section and peacocks and chickens roam wild. It's not as big as Houston zoo, and all the exhibits are outdoors, so try to pick a day that's not cold and rainy.
