Family and I went to the website to find out some things to do in Austin. Being so hot, we chose No.1--Barton Springs Pool. Well, we went, stayed only a short time, left. Although the water was very cool as advertised, it smelled strongly, crowded and basically not my cup of tea. The others seem to be enjoying it but we slipped on the floor, ...
We were visiting Austin for the weekend and this was a wonderful way to spend the day! We were there for the 4th of July so there were a lot of people, but I still thought it was manageable. The area is so large I didn't feel like it was a problem. The water was freezing!! We had a great time and enjoyed an authentic Austin experience! ...

The Drowning Pool!

We always had lot's of fun on hot summer days when I was growing up in the 50's. We'd picnic, go hiking, play, and swim. And that's what just about finished me off when I didn't look where I was jumping and found myself way over my head. But I'll come back...just as an old walrus.
I've lived in Austin a long time and Barton Springs was always one of my favorite places, even as a little kid. they have a shallow end with little pools and minnows in them that are great for kids to play in. in high school, it was the most popular hangout place in the summer. There are always people doing yoga and handstands in the grass and it's overall a great atmosphere. as for the topless women, you just have to try not to look.
i love this pool! i first went in it at summer day camp, years ago. it's awesome! but cold. i think people should definitly come to this pool when it's hot, or even when it's not. :)
Do you ever hate the chlorine-skin feeling after getting out of the pool? Well, Barton Springs is about the most invigorating swim you are likely to find, outside of swimming in the ocean. The water is about 68 F, fed by natural springs, all rock bottom, and 900 ft long. You step out feeling like you just bathed in the legendary Fountain of Youth. ...
The water is really cold when you jump in. There are alot of good looking women and some of them will go topless but not always. Not really a little kid hangout. Mainly late teens to middle twenties. Its $2 to get in if I remember correctly.

Can't wait

My buddy (Matt)and I are in the US Navy and can't wait to retire next year. We talk about Austin practically everyday...maybe after reading some of these reviews he and his family may want to consider Austin a little more. Regardless, I've heard only good things about the city.
