  • The Drowning Pool!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/08
We always had lot's of fun on hot summer days when I was growing up in the 50's. We'd picnic, go hiking, play, and swim. And that's what just about finished me off when I didn't look where I was jumping and found myself way over my head. But I'll come back...just as an old walrus.

  • I wish I was there!
    By flippinfrenchhorn, 09/28/08
I've lived in Austin a long time and Barton Springs was always one of my favorite places, even as a little kid. they have a shallow end with little pools and minnows in them that are great for kids to play in. in high school, it was the most popular hangout place in the summer. There are always people doing yoga and handstands in the grass and it's overall a great atmosphere. as for the topless women, you just have to try not to look.

  • Too cold for my taste
    By Elic, 12/02/07
I also like to see the bottom when I swim.... I did find some of the warm spots, but they drift.

At least it doesn't smell like lake.

  • Dangle your toes where Cabeza de Vaca probly did too.
    By Amanda, 10/20/07
Do you ever hate the chlorine-skin feeling after getting out of the pool? Well, Barton Springs is about the most invigorating swim you are likely to find, outside of swimming in the ocean. The water is about 68 F, fed by natural springs, all rock bottom, and 900 ft long. You step out feeling like you just bathed in the legendary Fountain of Youth. ...

  • Fun place to hang out
    By First L, 10/17/07
The water is really cold when you jump in. There are alot of good looking women and some of them will go topless but not always. Not really a little kid hangout. Mainly late teens to middle twenties. Its $2 to get in if I remember correctly.

  • Can't wait
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/06
My buddy (Matt)and I are in the US Navy and can't wait to retire next year. We talk about Austin practically everyday...maybe after reading some of these reviews he and his family may want to consider Austin a little more. Regardless, I've heard only good things about the city.

    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/15/06
Talk about a wonderful place. Relaxing and Refreshing. Just too many people, but a great place to strike up a conversation. Just wish I could take my dog there. Oh well - Still beautiful!!!!!

  • Don't miss it.
    By trav414, 07/29/06
Just another Austin essential. Take the time and "chill" literally at Barton Springs. It is quintessential Austin, and a must see part of your time there.
