Our tour guide appeared knowledgeable about black history but after hearing what he said about N B Forrest , I had to question anything he said afterwards. Forrest was a slave owner but he treated his slaves with respect and wouldn't split up familes. Hunderds of Blacks came and wepted at his funeral for the good he did in making amends ...

We learned alot
By Berri, 07/06/08
We went to visit the house. We learned alot about black culture. Things we did not know. The tour guide seemed to be angry. Kept leaving us to go attend the door and people coming in. The CELLAR was shocking to me. It was an eye opener for me. To think what my people before me went threw. I had a different feeling when i left. It was good. I ...

Truly Black History
By christin_spurlock, 03/08/08
I recently went to slavehaven and believe me when I say it was truly black history. From the tour of the old time toilet pots to the model of the slave cabin, I and my classmates found it extraordinary. Even as junior and senior college students the knowledge, information, and wisdom we gained from the tour was unbelievable. It gave me a sense of ...

It changed my perspective on life
By Rocsi, 06/19/07
I coordinated a trip for my school and took pre-teen age children and their parents. Needless to say I witnessed my students and their parents crying while at this museum. They were crying because as African Americans they finally got to experience a piece of Black history thought only to be found by going back to Africa. My students now realize ...

Extraordinary experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/26/07
I recently visited this museum, along with the children from my church, and I enjoyed my visit tremendously. The museum was very well organized and helpful in learning about some of the history of the buying and selling of slaves, how Harriett Tubman and others aided the slaves through the Undreground Railroad, and how unselfish acts would change ...

If you are into black history this is a must visit.
By Theresa K, 01/22/06
Group visits gives this tour its sparkle. I went with a grop many years ago. We sang old negro sprituals and learned alot about our culture. This was before alot of the stuff there today was added, back when it was "just an old house". I applaud the sisters for what they have done. Without it my thoughts of Memphis, and my families ...

Buyer Beware
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/18/05
The Slavehaven was absolutely terrible. Some of the artifacts were questionable at best. The tour guide rushed my group through and did not seem to have anymore than a sketchy working knowledge about the period. THERE WAS NO REENACTMENT OF HARRIET TUBMAN. They are passing off cheaply constructed souveniers that they ripped off the internet or ...

An amazing experience!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/04
I went with a group as part of a heritage tour and when you see the house from the outside, it looks like any old house, but when you get inside... There is a re-enactment of Harriett Tubman rescuing slaves on the Underground Railroad. It brought most of the group, including myself, to tears. Then when you go downstairs to see where slaves had ...
