There is only one reason to go to the Rum Boogie, the music. It is "the place" in Memphis to hear the real thang. I grew up in Memphis and James Govan and the Rum Boogie house band is the closest you get to the Stax days. If you like Al,Otis,Booker T,Rufus and the likes, James Govan and the Band are all of these. DD, the Trumpet player, ...

Very Disappointing
By Bruce, 11/18/07
I saw nothing spectacular about this place. Sure, all the guitars and other memorabilia on the walls is interesting, to say the least. However, if you're going there to eat, like we did, you may be disappointed.
First off, the items on the menu are very expensive, for what is basically a bar. I don't mind paying extra money for ...

Fun Place
By Denise from Illinois, 07/30/07
Good food, interesting atmosphere, lots of reading material all over the place. Service was very friendly and attentive. Great gumbo, avoid the red beans and rice, rather bland. The chocolate cake dessert was fabulous. They did charge us a cover charge because they had a band that night, even though we were there to eat, not see the band.

This is where you get drunk
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/03/07
This is where you go to get drunk if you feel like paying $10 at the door to get into a dank hole...Yeah, it is BAR FOOD, it should not be classified as one of the best places to eat! It's not even the best place to get drunk!! Memphis....Ugh.....Visit some decent cities in the world, no let's keep it simple, US, eat at some real restaurants THEN write your reviews.

Wow from a Memphian
By ChefKitty, 11/26/06
Enjoyed the Mammas Nachos made with smoky pork barbecue, lettuce, melted cheese sauce, green onions, sweet barbecue sauce, tortilla chips and jalapenos. SUPERB!!! Also had a cup of the Gator Gumbo - delish!!!
Music was rocking, service was friendly and we sat out on the patio and watched the people go by. Great entertainment in itself. The live music rocked and the ambiance was terrific.

Nothing to See
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/29/05
We stopped in the Rum Boogie Cafe because we'd read that they were famous for blueberry pie. As it turns out, this dive isn't really famous for anything--except for the guitars signed by various musical notables.
The service was good; our waitress was wonderful. But by and large, the food we got was nothing stellar, particularly for ...

May mmove to Bealle Street
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/17/05
Everyone at the Rum Boogie Cafe was wonderful. We were treated like family. I have visited Bealle Street twice in the last 5 month and have told all my friends who have visited and I can't wait to get up there again. Food was good and the band is great. I highly recomend everyone visit once. I may have to move. Hope to see everyone soon.

Bankers in Memphis have a ball
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/24/05
We sat through three full sets and the music was much better than we expected. Better than everything we heard on Bourbon Street in N.O. except for Preservation Hall. We drank beer and ate nothing, so I can't speak for the food, but at $5 cover charge for hours of music, it was great. And they let us go on stage and take photos between sets!
