I was just getting over a foot injury and couldn't walk as much as I wanted to during my visit to Charleston. I went to the Visitor Center and found a combination Harbor Tour and Carriage tour, which I took.
The carriage I went on held 16 people. All people are not the same size. I was alone, so got the last seat in a tour that was about to ...
do not go on the carriage tour! they do not take of the horses. its way too hot outside, they dont give them breaks or water and dont spray them down. they feed them the cheapest food. the horses were just dragging, it was really sad. i think the purpose is great with a lot of great information but i know they are making great money and need to take care of the horses.
There is so much history in Charleston. You can walk around, but the tid bits on knowlege passed on by the friendly horse riders makes it so much more enjoyable.
I live in the Charleston area and have taken out of town guests on MANY carriage rides through town over the past few years. These guys & gals are the best - they know their history and they even gave us a great recommendation for lunch at a little cafe near the stables. This is the company to use!
I was really happy with the Palmetto Carriage Works ride. The staff was organized, friendly and helpful. The only thing that they should tell people is: more information about the GhostTour. They were selling the tickets and people assumed that it was another carriage ride, but it was a walking tour. Our husband I didn't mind, but for the ...
If you are somewhat pressed for time and don't have a few days this is a great way to see the area. Strongly recommend taking the carriage tour, and you can ask questions during the tour.

Classic Carriage Tours - Good Guide, Awful Customer Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/04/07
We started by purchasing tickets from one of the curb side dealers. We purchased the tickets for $20 per person. We asked about pricing on the night private ride and the merchant stated that it was $100 but the tour did not go through residential at night. We thought it sounded good. He stated that it would have to purchased through a lady near ...

A trip with "Hero"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/25/07
This was a great tour! We were with another couple and we drew the #1 route which hit the waterfront along with the historic homes and sites. We all agreed that our guide was fantastic - full of information and humor that was genuine, not canned and the horse (Hero) was amazing. I can't imagine a tour through any part of this beautiful city being anything other than satisfying with people like this to escort you.

Wonderful first-day experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/04/07
We had an awesome guide on the carriage tour. She was awesome at telling the stories of Charleston's past. She answered all of our questions and let me film the entire hour-long private tour with my camcorder, which was an added bonus. The price is reasonable $90.00 for two people if you book online prior to your trip out there.
