But I thought a few activities were a little pricy. The place was beautiful and the staff was great, but there was really not that much too see on the Swamp Walk and the Boat ride, each costing $7 per person.
Overall, I still think it's a great place to see and enjoyed my time there.

Nice walk!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/07
Just took a trip to Charleston. This is easy to get to from Historic downtown. The gardens were nice. Spring would probably be better although some things were blooming in October.
The swamp walking tour was great. Nothing like walking along the water line with live allegators in the water next to you!! Not for the weak at heart but fasinating!!

Spend the day at beautiful Magnolia.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/24/07
Walk the beautiful gardens, there is always something blooming, no matter what time of year. Take the home tour. They let you see the entire home. Our grandchilden love the petting zoo. You can take a canoe out on the creek although we have not done this. We always walk the swamp where we see gators and beautiful birds, etc. You can bring a lunch and eat in the shade or get a burger from the sandwich stand. This place is a real treasure.

We were disappointed by the lack of maintenance. The Audubon Swamp was great.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/12/07
Magnolia Plantation has great potential for beuaty and awe, however, the lack of maintenance was disturbing. The gardens are delapidated. There is trash (lumber, old tools, nonfuctional boats) in some parking areas and low traffic walkways. The Audubon Swamp made the whole trip worth while! A bird watches dream! We seen everything from ...
The gardens are absolutely beautiful, however skip the house and walk the swamp instead. Couple of notes go in the spring or summer but not to late (August was a bit late) or most everything has already bloomed, and second take some bug spray the mosquitoes are vicious but it is worth it.

A Wonderful visit to the past
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/10/07
We spent the day at Magnolia Plantation and had a blast. The tours are worth the fee, which isn't at all overpriced. The guides really put the effort into their jobs and you learn so much about plantation life in the South! The swamp tour is a must. We saw tons of alligators and turtles and birds you wouldn't see anywhere else! Buy the all ...
My husband and I visited the plantation recently, and we were both very taken with how beautiful it was.
The only extra we paid for outside of admission was the self-guided swamp tour. It was not really worth the money. We did not see any alligators or otters, just birds and turtles. Birds and turtles are fine, but I normally would not pay ...
We only visited the gardens of the plantation and the Audubon Swamp Garden. It was a little on the expensive side - though if you had time to make it a two day visit, it would be more worth it. We loved the beautiful gardens and saw lots of critters - great blue herons, alligators, great white egrets, snakes - awesome wildlife viewing! We really enjoyed our few hours there.
If you like gardens and are interested in historic homes, this place should not be missed!! Very relaxed atmosphere. The guides that take you through the home are in authentic garb and have so much knowledge of the history of the plantation. There are picnic areas on the grounds and animals for the kids. Just a delightful place to spend several hours on a sunny day in South Carolina!
