  • Not bad but don't think I will return
    By HengA, 08/16/09
Sand is very fine and soft but when the wind is strong then the wind picks up the sand easily. When someone gets up and pack next to you, you will get a lot sand on your face/body too. Don't eat or drink at the beach because you will end up eating sand, or the seagull will attack your food!
Parking is expensive but I guess most the beaches are charging about the same.

We had heard about the red seaweed problem prior to our visit so we were well prepared. We researched the area beaches & found that Sachuest was by far the nicest beach around. Be prepared to pay $10/day to park & $15 on the weekends. Another tip, get there early on Sat & Sun. The lots fill up fast & parking far away can be a hassle ...

  • Gross swimming for the most part
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/20/08
The red sea weed was out of control, no way we were going to swim in it. As the waves curve over you can see they are full of the sea weed and those that were swimming (kids) had it all over them. There was an announcement over an intercom that said the west side of the beach had very little sea weed for those who wanted to swim. We went down ...

  • Not Pleasant
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/13/07
Because of the red tide we could not go swimming in the water. I wouldn't have anyways becuase it looked red and disgusting. The sand is very fine so it blows everywhere. We ended up leaving because we were just trying to lay down and relax and we got covered in sand, in our ears, eyes, etc. It was not pleasant. There was also not nearly ...

  • Won't return
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/27/07
The beach is beautiful, bathhouse and snack bar were convenient to have. The water was warm and waves high but the red seaweed is disgusting. I had to wash my daughters hair several times to get it all out. If you don't like to swim it's an awesome spot. I myself love the water so with that said I will not be returning.

  • Great Place for Fun
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/02/07
There's a lot to do at this beach, something for everyone: merry-go-round, evening concerts, good snack bar; They also have big-time volleyball tournaments, and great snorkling on the east side tide pools. Beach itself is no-drinking zone (thank goodness) but the Atlantic Beach Club is a major bar scene right there, for those who want to party. ...

  • Better Beaches in Newport
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/17/06
It's a fine beach, if you want to be solely with tourists. The locals go to Sachuset Beach, only a mile away, but is better. The red tide that invades the beach lasts much of the summer, dampening the beach. There is no ball-playing, frisbee-throwing, and it is a dry beach, so alcohol is "strictly prohibited". Buying a Del's ...

  • Red tide and smelly what more can you ask for?
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/06
This beach would be great if it wasn't for the red sea weed. It cost $8 to get in. There was a really bad smell of raw sewage. My co-worker said there is a sewage pipe near by the beach and it was closed for awhile in July, because of the sewage.

I don't recommend this beach too anyone because of the sewage smell and red seaweed.

  • IT WAS HORRIBLE
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/06
I agree that this beach was horrible. There were red seaweed everywhere. The seaweed got into everything on my kids hair, water shoes it was disgusting. It looks like red blood clots my kids were very disgusted by it. So then we decided to let them play in the running stream which extended from the beach water but it was seaweed free. However, ...
