This place was really good and very emotional for our family. My Great-grandparents came over from Poland and have there names on the wall. For our family this place was well worth it, the memories will last a lifetime and I can't wait to have kids and come back!
Ellis island, combined with a visit to liberty island, is an absolutely must for first time visiters to NYC. I spent an enjoyable afternoon wandering around the museum at my own leisure. The immigration museum is both factually interseting and neattly laid out. I highly recommend it to all visiters to New York.
Spent a wonderful afternoon here. It had so much to read and look at ---even for a non history buff. We spent an extra few bucks and saw a short little play about what it was like coming to America. Very enjoyable.
especially since its on the same ferry as Statue of liberty. My wife's father was on the immigrant hall of honor so the visit was special for us. Almost fell asleep during the movie.
The ride to Ellis Island is scenic and can be breathtaking at times. The museum itself offers a fanscinating glimpse of history insofar as it documents the number of individuals coming from all walks of life and from all over the world to NYC. Looking up your family name is also fun.
Ohh as a American history buff, i loved Ellis island. I wanted to stay longer, but the people i came with were not that interested in it as i was so it made it harder for me to really see the place. i hope to go back someday myself and take the time to really see it for myself. Anyone who likes History will love this place. i also recommend it as a great teaching tool.
When you get there make sure you look out for the free tour guide. This tour guide that I followed explained very well, precise and in a interesting way. Never thought I would enjoy learning the history of immigration at first.....this tour guide prove me wrong!!!
having stayed in nyc. for a short period of time , i would say that everyone should experence it just once. you will meet all nationality of people ,different culture, and there is something for everyone. nyc. is a mustsee.
My visit to Ellis Island was wonderful. I highly recommend it. My grandparents and many relatives came to the U.S. through Ellis Island. The presentations are very well done. The island has been restored to its original state. You get to experience in a small way what so many people had to endure to reach this land of opportunity.
