Villages are all great areas, really. But when it gets too crowded in the Greenwich I head over to the East Village, get a spot on East Village Visitors Center and enjoy my time. They've got great coffee and tours to suit whatever need.

Ab Fab!!! By English Girl Alone in New York
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/24/08
I absolutely loved Greenwich Village; far from the madding crowds of 5th Avenue and full of character. The eclectic mix of clothes shops was fab. I spent the best part of a day just meandering through the village alone, which slowly became Soho. This is a must; if you're a Brit and like Covent Garden then you'll love Greenwich and Soho. You must try Roni's - dress shop on Bleeker (I think), fab outfits at reasonable prices.

absolutely amazing, you'll never find another place even close to it. im currently in la but moving back to new york soon. greenwich village is a nice, more laid black part of the city.
It's the best part of NYC for young people (20-35)! It's so cool. I went there when I was in New York this August. If I ever come to live in NY I'll try to find an apartment here. The atmosphere is great. It's near Soho and NYU and there are a lot of young people. It's a great neighborhood!

This was my favorite area of NYC! A little less of the hustle and bustle of Times Square and clean! Murray's (I believe it was on Bleeker)is a must! they have a variety of cheeses, olives and the best panini sandwhich I have ever had in my life! There was also a bakery not to far from there that had great coffee if you like it sweet and delicious pastries!

The entire atmosphere was amazing. The people, the shops, the restaurants. I think it is the best place to visit if you are in the city. Not as many tourists, more laid back.
As a native New Yorker, I was brought into the city quite young & exposed to lots of different things to see & do. I have to say, my fave has always been the West Village. It's a place of diversity & I feel at home whenever there. Not that one should be careless in NYC, but you don't get that sense that you could be mugged at ...
The zigzagging streets and charming brownstones of the West Village have a far more laid back atmosphere than most neighborhoods in the city. The center of New York's gay and student communities lies here, with a variety of funky shopping and nightlife including jazz, rock and dance clubs, restaurants, bars and cafes. By the early 1900s, the ...
I envy those who are lucky enough to live in the Village. During my recent trip to NYC, I had the pleasure of spending a day walking the streets and parks in the Village and had the time of my life! From great little shops to the best restaurants in the city, Greenwich Village has it ALL! If you get the chance, check out the Life Cafe. Their ...
