I love Fairway Market Red Hook. I have to drive down the horrid Gowanus Expressway to get there, but its worth it.

Quality of produce, meat, seafood, other food is very good. Prices are superb, much cheaper than in Manhattan, but also better than a lot of Brooklyn places.

Bananas either never ripen or they get rotten in just a couple days. Tomatoes look great in the store - take them home and they quickly get very soft. Apples, when they are cut, often reveal rotten spots near the center.

We used to always do our produce shopping at Fairway (73rd & Broadway) . . . no more.

Hope that this is just a seasonal probem, where their produce freezes and then thaws out.

We visited NYC and stayed in a hotel opposite and I discovered Fairways. It was wonderful and one of our abiding memories of a great city. Who needs all those expensive designer shops when you have Fairways - the stock was staggering, the deli staff were fab and I just loved it!!

To anyone visiting NYC make Fairways part of your trip!!

Good selection of fruits and vegetables. Fair prices.

However, be prepared!!! It is usually very crowded.

Employees are not helpful and the cashiers can be downright MEAN. And management doesn't care.

Go in with a thick skin or you'll come out angry.

Found items that you can't find in North Jersey or other stores in the city.
Good variety of organic, gluten free, sugar free, etc products.
Hard to walk about the store as it's a bit crowded.
Have to pay separately for upstairs and downstairs.
