stay with the artists who are licensed to sell native american jewelry. The indians who are assigned daily spots under the canopy are the best. The expensive stores in town are mostly owned by non-Americans, and you cannot trust the authenticity. Sante Fe is great. Support the native americans!
We loved the plaza. We had visited the information center when we first got into New Mexico and found the Spanish Market was going on. It was a great experience and the number of vendors to choose from was amazing. We ended up shopping at the vendors outside the plaza area as we found their prices a bit cheaper and they were willing to deal with you better.
Great quaint place Loved it....Wonderful Pizza at the Rooftop Restaurant !!! I really enjoyed it. A must to see and visit. All the shops are very nice a bit expensive...Be sure to visit the jewelry offered by the Indians on the side !!

Nice at day, creepy at night
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/12/07
The plaza is certainly pleasant during the daytime hours, but at night, it's downright creepy: begging backpackers, crazy (perhaps mentally ill) folks yelling in the square and - the topper - being threatened by a carload of teenagers. Police were no where to be seen. Best advice: ignore the plaza at night. There's nothing to see.

Its inpossible to go to the plaza and not have fun there are so many fun shops and the food cant be beat and the occasional performance makes it the perfect spot for visiters to New Mexico. Every so often theres people with merchandise lining the streets where you can find traditionaly made things like pottery and jewlry.

The Plaza is a real step back in time and the hub of a lot of things to see...Park your car and walk about....The Palace of the Governors, the Cathedral, Loretto Chapel, shops galore, and just a great atmosphere to spend part of a day in (if you like shopping probably all day).....We took a tour in an outdoor bus and I am not sure if I would ...

Truly Enchanting
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/03/06
The Plaza at Santa Fe was like stepping back in time, but still keeping a toe in modern day. The historic buildings in and around the Plaza allows a person to imagine what it might have been like in the early days of the town. The market was full of great jewelry, pottery, etc.- most of which was decently priced and absolutely beautiful. It should ...

Awesome second honeymoon
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/06
My husband and I took an unplanned trip to Santa Fe. I wish we would have planned it, but we ended up spending our day at the Plaza. We walked for about 8 hours and didn't see everything it had to offer. There are many shops selling jewelry, art, pottery, and many other Native American things. It felt like we were in another world! We cannot wait to go back when we have more time and money to spend!
