Consider heading out towards the Rio Puerco 20 min West of Abq. The Old Rt 66 bridge that seperates BLM from Laguna Pueblo land (where Rt 66 casino is) is interesting to get under. This river has the highest mud to water ratio in the US and is often largely dry and firm. Continue south downriver to see some old cabins and sandy bluffs over river basin. Not exactly a National Park material but what the heck.
This is a great tour however many of the buildings are not well maintained. It's a shame because these places are historical sites and a lot more people would visit if the sites were clean and operational.
I love driving historic Route 66, but NOWHERE as much as New Mexico, where so much has been preserved. Albuquerque in particular has preserved the look and feel of historic Route 66 in Old Town, an interesting and unique tourist and shopping experience.

boring it was nothing and it was to old to look like anything that had meant anything to the world. I was very bored looking at a stretch of nothing

Down Home Goodness

A great little place, themed like a classic 60s diner with down-home food. Great burgers and club sandwiches. Desserts are great too, with some terrific pies and milkshakes made the old-fashioed way. Like a trip back in time
