The recorded guided tour was so realistic. I felt as though I was there while it was still in operation. It is one of the most realistic and fasinating destinations in the United States. I would urge anyone visiting San Francisco to see it. Karen Bradford, Milltown, New Jersey
we did the evening cruise tour and it was perfect. the weather was dark and drizzly, some wind blowing, and it just added to the ambiance of the place! it was very interesting, we were not bored at all. it seems like the tour lasted about an hour? not positive on the time, but it was very cool to see. i would definitely recommend it. kids under 10 or 11 may be bored, depending on how much they love to walk about and see jail cells!
I went to Alcatraz with my family to celebrate a birthday. I had not been there in years and only remembered it being cold, muggy and creepy! This time when I went back, I was suprised of how clean it was and very organized. I loved the earphones they provide you with so that you can go on tour on your own pace.
Be prepared to hike. There is a lot more history to the island that you will learn. You get headphones to get a guided tour when you enter where the general population was held. We went by helicopter we got a great San Francisco Vacation Package and the ride was included. I have always seen it from the bridge.

Alcatraz is definetly a place to visit while you are in San Francisco. The audio tour was very good and it was amazing to walk through the prison as well as actaully stand in a prison. I had a great time!
