Its different. Its in the middle of a beautiful bay. The boat trip there and back is just long enough.

Good audio tour...interesting history...nice boat trip...nice view..good video..not commercial....best in good weather...great for history or crime buffs...too many birds is only negative...Hope this helps. Very Interesting place to visit. You can get some great pictures of San Francisco from the island. Fun place to let your kids run around too. Make sure to take a jacket!!!

It is an interesting part of history, but not an exciting tour. I would have prefered a guided tour than a headset. It should be a lot cheeper if you are giving yourself the tour. Not to mention everyone is running into you while you are reading.

As a former resident of SF. I came back as a tourist and have never been to Alcatraz.

Well I have been and all I could say is im impressed with the tour and the park rangers I would even reccomend that if you want A escape so to say from the city and sit and watch the boats the golden Gate ect and at the same time learn some history of the rock this is a to do on your list.

Visiting Alcatraz was fun and it just gave you a sense of how it was back when it was a working prision. The tour is great because you get to go at your own speed. No wasting time boring tour guides are with spending time waiting for people. Great experience and would do it again

Being a native San Franciscan I normally don't like tourist attractions but this exhibit was truly interesting! The audio tour was mostly a compilation of anticdotes about former inmates and famous escapes, while giving you the history of the island and the time and setting for when the events took place.

I would highly recommend visiting the island. Suitability for adoscents to adults.
