For a Museum the displays are full of factual error; for example look at the cable car route map, plus the bookstore is incomplete! Muni winding machinery a plus, plus the equipment.

Learn about cable cars...

2 simple reasons why you must visit this place - it's the only museum of its kind in the world, plus it's free. Great place to learn about the history of the cable cars, and to see the mechanisms that move the cable cars. Simple yet ingenious concept. Set aside about 1-2 hours. Possibly one of the most under-rated attractions in San Francisco.

If you have any interest in the history of cable cars or their mechanics, you shouldn't miss this museum. It's totally free and easy to visit (right on the Cable Car line!) The museum is the actual cable car barn (the terminal where the cars go at the end of the day) and is also the maintenance center for all of the cables that keep the ...

Only place like it anywhere. Jose Godoy, the curator, runs an informative little museum, with many interesting and unique exhibits. Free! Nice gift shop.
