This is a great place to duck in for some great chowder and/or shellfish. Don't let the fact thay you sit at the counter and usually have to wait in line throw you. This place is as good as it gets and worth the wait. This friendly, family-owned and operated seafood diner is a must do for locals (me) and tourists as well. Ask them to make you their cocktail sauce, it is the perfect accent to a great selection of fresh seafood. ENJOY!

When in SF we never miss going to Swan Oyster Deport!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/24/05
We love the Swan Oyster Deport and make a point of eating there whenever we visit San Francisco. The clam chowder is the best and we've tasted several.
The staff is friendly, but we wish they took plastic cards.

Why settle for mediocre when the best is right under your nose . . ?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/03/05
No fancy trendy stuff here. The freshest, highest quality seafood simply prepared. Mainly local like dungeness crab, petrale sole, rex sole, salmon, CA bay shrimp, Beautiful oysters from Washington/Canada.
SF Anchor Steam beer and fresh SF Parisian Sourdough bread served by good old SF boys, the Sancimino brothers, second generation ...

Best crab in San Francisco
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/22/05
Swan Oyster depot is excellet for hot chowder and fresh local shellfish. Avoid this place with large grups and on weekends because it tends to get packed quickly and they only offer counter service. Their food is excellent and offers some of the freshest seafood in the city. It's a great place for a weekday lunch for two.

There is a long line for a reason.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/22/04
Yes, the line stretches down the sidewalk, and yes, that means you'll be standing around Polk Street for awhile, but darn if it isn't worth it. The cocktail sauce (IMHO) leaves a little to be desired but the shellfish is excellent, and the service very friendly.
It's nice to go to an actual oyster bar, with a focus on the oysters, rather than some dreadful chic place with day-old bluepoints at fourteen dollars per.
