Some of the reviews here seem to be for the Victoria Island Protea (which is near the beach), not the one at Oakwood Park (which is not). Ok hotel, but nothing special given the price. The hotel was clean and surrounding guarded courtyard/parking area seemed safe enough. Nice enough bar and small pool area. That said smallish room with twin-size ...

May be the Best Hotel in Nigeria
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/01/08
I took my family back to Nigeria for a two weeks vacation and stayed at several hotels, including Protea APO Abuja and Excellence Hotel Ogba. This hotel compares very well to the Marriott chain in the US with the exception of pricing. The value of staying at this hotel could have been greatly enhanced if the price tag could come down. Overall, if ...

In my opinion, the Protea offers the best value in all of Nigeria. The prices, while not cheap, are moderate compared to the Sheraton and others, while the location (very close to Chevron) and service are very good.

Best and newest Business hotel in Lagos
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/29/05
The hotel has excellent expatriate management as well as an expatriate executive chef. Good pool with BBQ area and gym, very good food! I’ve stayed there a few times and regularly put guests of my company up there. Also very close to the business heart of Lagos, Victoria Island and Ikoyi.
Taking a walk in the grass around the buildings, I can't help but be reminded of the parks back home in Florida...The sonorous melodies of the mosquitoes in the tall grass reminded me of standing outside the halls of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with my ex-wife. My girlfriend and I can't wait to go back. Hey! Just kidding!!! This hotel is the best I've ever been to in Nigeria. Good work guys!

I like the the location near the beach. The security system is excellent. The room, nice decor and very clean with powerful airconditioning. It's vaule for moner during the weekend.
Keep the standard up because maintenance is the problem we have in NIGERIA.
