This place may look small from the outside, but the food makes it larger than life! Hands down the BEST restaurant in Tacoma. I am originally from North Carolina, and this place has the closest thing to Grandmas cooking that I can find. If you want to feel like a true southerner, you MUST try the fried catfish, fried okra, and mashed potatoes. Don't forget to get a big mason jar full of sweet tea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Southern Kitchen is without a doubt the BEST restaurant in Washington! The food is delicious but what keeps me coming back even more than the food is the outstanding customer service. The people who run the place are the friendliest and most polite people I have ever come across. I moved to California a year ago and miss the place very much. I ...

Down home Southern cooking at it's best. I'm ashamed to say that I've lived in Tacoma my entire life and today was the first time I visited Southern Kitchen in my 35 years. As others have said, don't let the modest outside of the restaurant sway you. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the country fired steak. It came with ...

Southern cooking at its finest
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 08/12/07
This place was amazing. By far it has been the closest to Southern cooking my wife and I have found up North. Being from Memphis myself, I can honestly say that this place reminds me of dinners back at home. WE are living soon to go back to Florida but will miss this place. Do NOT let the outside fool you.

You have to try

It may be a small place, but don't let looks deceive you. Step inside and the smell will have your mouth watering. They have a lot of your guilt pleasures of southern food. From fried okra, mac and cheese to fried catfish. I do recommend trying the Mango Lemonade, it is great with the fresh mango pieces in it. I am not big on the mac and ...

I took my Mother to Seattle, WA for a "girls-week-out" and a local recommended the Southern Kitchen! The food took Mother and I back to the days when our Grandmother, "Granny" would cook all day in her kitchen some of the best food! The candied yams, cornbread dressing, and lemonade is excellent! I just got a job in Seattle, ...

I'm dead and in heaven
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 04/19/06
Southern kitchen was an eating experience similar to visiting a favorite family member who knows how to really 'burn' - chicken with that 'dirty' scald, and chops that had me lickin' mine, all washed down with a cool and aromatic down home strawberry lemonade. I am dead, aren't I? But if you are still alive find your way here and kick back for some good southern vittles you won't find anywhere else around here.
