Food is great if you order the right dish. They are very heavy with the garlic. The place can get noisy, but it is fun and by the way they do serve the best Lemon Drop Martini.

I am a local and have been to this restaurant twice. I wish I had read these reviews before I visited the last time because I may have been more prepared for the truly awful service and apathetic attitude of the service staff. The food is okay but over priced. If you don't mind terrible service and have over an hour to spend waiting to be ...

One of Old Towns "Hot spots," but just what's so hot, I can't say for sure. The food is a fusion cuisine with relatively good plates. Atmosphere is open and rather loud, kind of a free for all vibe. This goes well with the kraft paper table covers. great for when the kids come, but...Prices, not great for what you get. Drinks rather pricey. Service, mediocre. Try it, for sure, but I'm not super eager to get back.

In all modesty it is one of the better places in this area, but not all that good. You see the Humboldt Nation is plagued with poor service and hack chefs. H. Kates is not immune to this syndrome (most likely caused by the influx of rich so cal college kids, and dope growers trying to have a legit income). Yet when compared to other local options, ...

WOW!

Wonderful food. Truly a treasure of international cuisine hidden behind a simple doorway and modest decor...Always a surprise to the palette and don't forget to try their Mojito. Whatever their soup of the day is...it's always wonderful. The locals know about this one, so you may want to make reservations to be sure to get in, especially on a Friday or Saturday night.
Was disappointed with food and service. Service was indifferent and food not up to the advertisement.

Always a treat

Hurricane Kate's is a fun, fresh restaurant with really tasty food in interesting combinations. It is a little pricey but not TOO pricey, and the food is really worth it. Try the seared ahi or the eggplant lasangne, and don't forget to save room for the chocolate torte...it's to die for.

we live here in Eureka, we have tried Kates twice. both were disapointing, the service there is rotten and others have experienced the same thing. the food is overpriced pacific rim foo foo that doesn't cut the mustard when you are hungry. the place is nice to look at and the location is cool, however, if all the staff is as lazy as the 3 we have dealt with( 2 waitresses and bartender) i would not be sure it is very clean.
