It's the closest thing you get to authentic home cooked Mexican food. You can tell the people there are in it because they enjoy it.

We go to Cafe Carlos often enough that we know the owner/server/chef by name (it's Pepe). This is a family run business, that has fairly good mexican fare, and the folks there are just too nice for words. The atmosphere/ambiance could use work, but it's typical for a hole-in-the-wall type of place. Food is great. I love their fresh salsa!

Temperature-wise anyway. They warm the salsa, which I've never seen anywhere else, and is actually really good. Be sure to order a drink because otherwise you're stuck with ultra-chlorinated Scotts Valley water-- and nobody likes that. The margaritas are of the frozen blended variety, and so you wind up with the no-flavor-left-in-my-slurpee ...
