i have never complained about being charged way too much for food but it usually leaves the place at least full....last week was my first time eating at VA De Vi and OMG the food was mediocre and its Over price, three shrimp and half a cup of rice for 14.00 dollars, and the the fish was still cold....im still so disappointed every time i think about it. I wouldnt never go back...EVer

This place is so overrated. The shrimp was overcooked and the ahi tempura roll tasted like the oil it had been fried in. Everything looks great but just doesn't taste that good. Such a huge disappointment. I had to fill up on french fries to keep myself from starving.
One last thing...super stingy on the wine pours.

The seats overlooking the cooks are great. We tried almost all the Tapas style dishes...nice presentation. However, I did not care for the fries nor the duck (it was tough one night). Nice cozy place! Fair selection of wine flights. This definitely is one of the favorites in the area...
Tapas (small plates) style menu changes with the seasons. Bold new concept trying wine by glasses of three (called flights). Go early if you don't have reservations. Va De Vi Bistro is pricey but you will not get better food anywhere in the bay area (sorry Bing's). Kudo's to DVC culinary program.

Great small plates

We recently celebrated a birthday at Va de Vi and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We were greeted with a smile and seated promptly. We chose to sit inside it feels like a Paris bistro but the outdoor patio is very popular. It is located in a small alley just up the block from Tiffanys on Mt. Diablo Blvd.
The menu is composed of a wide ...

I'd go back again

So the wait is pretty bad (45-60 min) if you don't get reservations, and you have to get them well in advance if you want em. The service was a bit slower, but overall not too bad (mostly had to wait for check and end-service vs getting food).
The food was delicious and a nice variety of 'small plate' dishes including some different ...

Even More Disappointing the Second Time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/22/06
We decided to give the restaurant a second try after a lackluster experience about a year ago. We had 5 dishes this time, all so bland and boring. Presentation was excellent on most of them and portions were not bad. We thought we would have a least one winner. The wine on the menu touted as "the best cabernet franc in California" was by ...

Great Tapas at a reasonable price

Va De Vi - Is a great place to have tapas with a group of adventurous dinners that way you can share plates. I loved the atmosphere although a little crowded but the food made up for a little discomfort.

Surprisingly good food in Walnut Creek

If you have an opportunity, I'd highly recommend sitting at the kitchen counter and watching the staff serve up some of the best dishes in the East Bay. Recommend wild mushroom risotto, miso marinated alaskan cod, organic hanger steak.
