Very good sushi. Best I've had in San Mateo so far. Small place, but highly recommended.

This is the best place for sushi we've found in the mid-peninsula area for the money. The rolls are very tasty, the portions are generous and the prices are cheap considering what you get. Very good spicy tuna rolls. Not the most extensive menu you'll find, but what they do, they do well. Beware, it's pretty small and gets very crowded around dinner time, so make sure to get there early!

We go to this place a lot and recently had two very unpleasant experience in a row. Last week, we found a live bug in the salad. Best Japanese Restaurant in Bay Area Hands Down. Ambience may not be fancy, but service is decent. Food portion and quality is excellent. Only Japanese restaurant we go to in the area. And to top it all off its authentic japanese!!!(Hard to come by these days, trust me!)
Great food and good value for the money. Food is fresh and well prepared.

I started coming to Hotaru five years ago, and even though I now live in the South Bay, I'll drive up to have dinner there. The food is solid, the servings are generous, and the prices are relatively low. Service falls off at busy times (and there's rarely a time nowadays when it's not busy), and although the upstairs room that seats ...
