FANTASTIC views, cruddy service and mediocre food. AHH, that's magic in the making!
I should have known better when all the people around me seem to be tourists, or locals who obligingly take their tourist family members there just because it's THE San Francisco thing to do.
Do yourself a favor and see Golden Gate Bridge instead and your wallet will thank you too.

Spectacular views of the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. We ahd reservations for a window table for two but had requested a window table for four when we arrived. The staff was very accommodating. Our server was pleasant, courteous, & knowledgeable. We ordered the Loch Duart Salmon for appetizer, the scallops & steaks for the main entree & ...

My new favorite dining spot! The steamers are delicious and served with "WARM" SF sourdough. Surprisingly priced as well! Spectacular views, great service, fabulous face lift! I avoided checking out the new remodeled House for years. Wow, was I surprised.

Excellent Food!

The Cliff House Sutro is an excellent restaurant. I ate there for lunch on my birthday with my family and my boyfriend. The service was impressive, however, when it got a little busy, the drinks and the check came later than we had wanted. The menu doesn't tell you if it has nuts in the food, but if you ask, they'll put an allergy alert ...
I never would have ventured to the Cliff House, Sutro's if not for the Micheline Guide recomendation. I found the restaurant delightful, excellent food, friendly service and the room: stunning

NICE, BUT...

SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND MONEY, AND GO STRAIGHT TO THE BAR. THE DRINKS ARE GOOD AND THEY HAVE THE BEST NACHOS. THE RESTAURANT IS OKAY. THE VIEW IS THEIR BEST SELLER. THE FOOD WASN'T WORTH THE PRICE AND BEWARE OF THOSE JAM JARS. SOMETIMES PEOPLE EAT RIGHT OUT OF THEM.
WIth a gorgeous view of the ocean, a beautiful interior, and a location that attracts tourists, the Cliff House could get away with their high prices without great food. But despite this temptation, their menu shows an ambition for and commitment to great meals. Their focus is on seafood, and the seafood entrees I tried were better than their red ...

Great lunch experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/14/06
Had lunch there yesterday and found it to be a great overall experience - food, view, architecture and service. Inside the Sutro Restaurant it is clean, bright and peaceful, somewhat unusually for such a tourist spot.
I ordered a swordfish steak expecting the usual inch-thick 4-6 inch white slab. Instead I was served a 4-6 inch high chunk of ...

SCENIC

It if weren't for the FANTASTIC view of OCEAN BEACH, this place wouldn't have survived. There's NOTHING memorable about the mediocre food. The service is somewhat aloof. Everything is OVERpriced. The ONLY reason to dine here is if you've got people visiting from out of town and you need a stellar sunset to calm your nerves. That, and an OVERpriced martini.
