I love their "Morning Buns" but if you are the type of person like me who hates to wait in long lines especially on the weekend, then this isn't the place for you. Life is too short to spend half of your Saturday morning standing in line.

I don't have patience for eating here on the weekends. Not when I know I can have a smoother, more relaxed brunch somewhere else. That being said, when I'm buying a cake for a special occasion, there is nowhere else I think of than Tartine Bakery. There's a cake that's like strawberry shortcake, only much, much better. I ...

The morning buns will change your life - they are the most delicious things in the universe. Long lines on the weekends and in the mornings, though, makes it a little bit of a drag to go there.

  • Tartine…more like ‘Tar-45 Mintues For A Scone'
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/02/07
The food is decent, but hella expensive. The servers are all hipster Mission girls who could care less about serving anyone anything. I mean, why would they when they're discussing that hot tattooed guy from Lucky 13 last night! I mean really, I hate to stereotype, but it's true.

More importantly, the set up of the joint is ...

  • The good, the bad and . . . ultimately, the bomb
    By Dan, 03/13/07
I've gotten there before it opened on a Sat and had a 30 min wait. Service is a little spotty (yesterday, after a 30 min wait for a sandwhich and contradictory updates, they finally admitted they finally admitted they had never placed the order). Fortunately, my friend shared his sammy and it was enough. All that said, their pastries are fantastic, and actually worth the wait.

  • Deliciously Overrated

No apologies. I did not get the long wait & the disorganized, clueless service. It first appears as if it is a deliberate attempt for you to see a long line and assume that there must be something extremely delectably special and insanely scrumptious inside, alas it is just simply a long line due to inadequate service and indecisive customers ...

  • If only I could eat here every day
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/21/07
I really love this little corner gathering place. At the intersection of the Mission District and the Castro lays a little piece of heaven. The bread pudding and the various tartines are my favorite. But the cakes, desserts, and coffee are also devine. Be prepared to share your table and your personal space. The line moves quickly and the babies and dogs aren't shy.

  • food nay, service nay, attitude yay

beats me why people stand in long lines on all sorts of days outside this place when
    - the food is not worth that wait
    - attitude of people who work there is just way too high in the clouds
    - service follows the attitude

  • Still total chaos after three years, but worth it
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/11/06
...once you fight your way through the horrendously crowded ordering line, you're rewarded with really special baked goods (the bread pudding is not to be missed) and a bowl-like serving of great hot chocolate.

Word for the wise: Skip the pastry line and go straight to the small bar on the right to order your hot chocolate first, then battle it out in line for a decadent ham and cheese croissant.
