Took my daughters to Citizen Cake for dinner before a show...the service was very bad-couldn't even get a refill on my water! the food was over-priced over-rated and not even served hot! The market salad was so bitter-we didn't even finish it. We took some cupcakes to go but they were very dry-so into the trash they went. Do yourself a favor save the $100. The show (Wicked) was wonderful!!

The service was good and the astmosphere was pleasant. The food and overall value, however, were utterly lacking.

The cheese plate was decent but the portion was tiny (and $15.00). The cauliflower soup was a highlight but it went downhill from there. The entree was a strange concoction and the chocolate cake was pathetic: small portion (it ...

  • A Great Experience At Citizen Cake
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/17/06
My friends and I had a wonderful time at Citizen Cake. We ventured from our normal hang-outs to Hayes Valley. I had always wanted to try this restaurant, since it has been featured in many newspapers and television shows. We were not disappointed. Although we didn't have reservations, we were seated in an excellent spot where we could ...

  • Disappointing (and I had high hopes)
    By Laura, 11/10/06
Like many, I had heard great things about Citizen Cake. A couple months ago a friend and I went for the first time and spent over $100 on boxes of goodies to go. The desserts were nice, but truly not the great treats I'd heard about - and sadly, I agree with some of the other reviewers who said the staff was snooty. I interacted with several individuals, all who could barely be bothered to be pleasant or helpful. I will not be returning.

  • Dont go there unless you a snob
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/10/06
I lived about three blocks away from Citizen Cake for about 6 months. My proffession is massage therapist so I do not have to dress to impress at all times. . .sometimes in between massages I would go down to Hayes Valley to get a snack. On three seperate occasions I found the staff to be snobby, rude and classist. I think one of the reason ...

  • Horrific Customer service
    By MMA Hokie, 11/10/06
My wife and I had great expectations of citizen cake but were highly dissapointed. We were sat a nice booth and just before ordering we were made to move so they could organize for lunch. The staff were very rude and placed us in front of the dishwashing area on the bar. The experience kept going downhill from there with an overpriced lacking in ...

The cupcakes at the Virgin record store are from Citizen Cake. They look nicer than they taste, but at least are cheap.

My daughter Anna says: they have great deserts. Her favorite is peaches and cream She also like the one where you dip fruit leather and other tidbits into chocolate mouse. They also have virgin mojitos that are sweet and minty.
