After waiting almost two hours I was expecting something special...The ambiance was noisy, crowded and dark. The food was good but did not warrant a return visit even if the surrounding were more comfortable. Perhaps I did not order the right thing, The tea salad was interesting, but not intriguing. I regarded the food as more oily and seasoning lack the dimension and nuances of a good Thai or Vietnamese restaurant.

Burma Super Star was my favorite restaurant when I lived in San Francisco, three years ago. I have since moved to rural Wisconsin, but I still remember the delicious, crunchy green tea salad, mixed by the waiter at the table while he described each ingredient, and asked if I wanted the hot peppers mixed in or left on the side. Mixed in! Every time. ...

Maybe I didn't order the right thing but it really really really was not worth waiting almost 3 hours. Pure hype. And it's not a nice space-very crammed, sticky tables....

The long wait, and there can be a long wait for a table (the have about 50), is worth it. Unfortunately they don't take reservations. Put your name on the list and check out the books at The Green Apple.
The waiters are knowledgeable and very helpful. Samusas is good and os the salt&pepper chicken. Tea leaf salad is unique. Chile lamb is ...

I love food @ burma superstar. Only downside, they don't take reservations over the fone (or so I heard) so you can expect to wait anywhere from 30 mins to an hour to get a table on a weekend nite. This still doesn't deter me from going to this place though :) . Polite and friendly staff in spite of the crowd.
Some of my favs: refreshing burma cooler, salt & pepper chicken, samusas, lamb curry, spicy basil chicken, tofu kebat.

My wife heard of this place on that show 'Check Please' and I was a bit skeptical. Burmese? Whatever ... she usually knows that she's talking about. The food was AWESOME. We had a few traditional burmese dishes, and a few dishes that seemed closer to traditional thai cuisine. The food was very fresh, and although the small place gets crowded, the service was decent. We'll definitely go back.

As a recent newbie to Burmese food and to this restaurant, I must say that my experience so far has been fantastic. From what I have tasted so far Burmese food seems to be a mix of Indian, Chinese and Thai cuisines, which I really love. Of the items on the menu that I have tried so far, my FAVS are the samusas, coconut rice, the platha, samusa ...
I frequent restaurants between Mtn. View and the City, and often when friends on the peninsula rave about "whatever," I usually say they need to get out more (e.g., SF). But in this case, the reverse is true--BSS was good, but not the second coming. There are enough similar Malaysian/Thai options without long waits, crowds, parking ...
