  • Great Food, Great Service, OK Atmosphere
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/15/07
The food was tasty French bistro style. The service was spot-on, as well. Although it felt like a neighborhood place -- the host seemed to know half the folks walking through the door -- I thought the atmosphere was a little corporate. Even though it's small and friendly, it doesn't feel as intimate as it could. Wish it had some dark wood ...

  • Hard to beat
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/03/06
I had one meal here, and while the place is small and the service is not stellar the food is very hard to beat. I'm a fan of exactly this kind of rustic French food -- they get it perfect.

  • nothing special
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/02/06
Went here the other nite. The food was ok. Nothing really special (I had the halibut). The menu had a few different choices but nothing really caught my eye as something I had to have. The restaurant is not too noisey so you don't have to shout to be heard.

The apple tart dessert was really good.

  • Awesome French food in SOMA
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/10/06
I wasn't expecting much when I came here but was blown away. The service is very french, and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable and attentive. One nice thing about hte restaurant is that it is pretty quiet in comparison to many similar restaurants. The food was outstanding. Lobster ravioli melted in the mouth and the sauce was perfect. The ...

  • Nice, romantic spot
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/05
Fringale is not your typical SOMA joint with uber-hip waiters and loud, raucous crowds. It's small, with perhaps only 20 tables, and feels like an intimate, upscale Parisian cafe. Their frisee salad with bacon dressing and a quail's egg was simple, but tasty. The pork butt stewed in cabbage and apples was tender and sweet, though the ...

  • Very good food!
    By EleanorL, 10/01/05
It's a little on the expensive side so I do not go often to this restaurant.
It had been a few years since I was here last.
I recently had lunch there (9/28/05). The food is still very very good. I love the mussels! The bread is good. The coffee I had at the end of the meal was just sublime. I would definitely recommend going to this ...

  • Good, but not great
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/29/05
The food was tasty - I thoroughly enjoyed my halibut over mashed potatoes. And unlike some other reviews, I found the space to be intimate - not cramped. However, the service could use some improving and the location is not the best.

  • Needs Work
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/20/05
I've heard many good things from friends about Fringale and was disappointed with my experience. We went for the SF Dine About Town promotion and were treated with the stereotypical French blase service. The food itself was flavorful, but not imaginative or stand-out. Slightly over-priced for what it was. Finished plates sat on our table ...

  • Excellent Fois Gras
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/07/04
The Fois Gras was excellent, the restaurant was a bit cramped. However the food and good service compensates.
