My husband and I have been to Gary Danko 3 times and loved each time. The food was great and the service exquisite - and we wanted to dine there again. So why one star? Have been there several times and have had superb dining experiences and not so superb.
After a few years absence, tried it again, and am pleased to report it justified its excellent reputation.
Not that there were not a few flaws....service staff is attentive, but a bit intrusive at times...
and we had to send a dish back for further "development" but all in all, a fine dining experience....
Not inexpensive, but well worth it.

The food & service was good, but I got food poisoning from the oysters. I told the mgmt and they apologized, but that was it. My date and I were sick for 2 days....

The duck, try the duck. What a great place to have dinner, I really did enjoy the service they were never pushy but were always aware. Not many restaurants find good waiters/waitresses that can pull this off. I recommend this place.

Gary Danko gets a lot of hype. People talk about it like it's one of the best things to happen to San Francisco. Usually when I hear a lot about a place my expectations get so wound up that I end up being disappointed. However, my wife and I went with two friends for a birthday, and we were 100% impressed!
