The prices are really reasonably cheap and the food is so good and fresh. They always have lines of people waiting to eat. The only downfall is an occasional roach running along the floor but considering the location it's accepted. The food is worth it!

still don't understand what's the fuzz about this restaurant. you will love it if you like cheap and greasy food, but that definitely isn't true vietnamese style though.

The place is an absolute filthy dump! I have eaten there many times before a show at the theatre across Market St. But that's the only reason. The scary-homeless-crackheads on 6th Street giving you looks that would kill and bothering you on the way in and out isn't worth a regular visit. The tofu salad is the best thing on the menu, even if ...

Way overrated. Decent food, a bit pricey for pseudo Vietnamese, nothing special.

I found this little place in Lonely Planet so I decided to check it out. It's a little hectic, even during the middle of the afternoon, with the kitchen and an attached bar immediately on the left when you enter. I'm no expert on Vietnamese cuisine but from what I've had before, the #17 vermicelli noodles with pork and an ...

It's alright - no great shakes as far as I'm concerned, but I am guessing that my impression is not so great due to this being located on 6th Street. Having zany street people come in and disturb you while you eat kind of detracts from the food.

  • Where to go when you are hungry

I have eaten here several times. The food is consistantly tasty, plentiful and spicy. All the things I look for in Asian foods. The Pho is fabulous. I have run into friends here because the locals are the major trade here. You might need a bodyguard after dark, but it's worth the risk to get to this hole in the wall gem of an eatery. Go and enjoy

  • If you can brave 6th street, Tu Lan is your reward
    By Mike G, 11/03/06
On the gnarliest street south of market comes the best, cheapest Vietnamese in the city. Every time I go there, I get something new that I love, and amazed at the price. Then I look at the dilapidated interior and the shady streets and remember why the prices are so low. Not for the feint of heart or tongue, but nice to know that the homeless neighbors could enjoy top-class food if they can scrape together $6 bucks.
