Have loved Mexican food for years but Monterey and Salinas were lacking until I found Papa Chanos 12 years ago and my family and I go there frequently--it is both good and inexpensive. Try their soft tacos with Carnitas--they are to die for. Jim Leinenkugel

"The Best" - please...the food was OK - I had the burrito al pastor. Chips are crummy at best. Salsa bar was messy and was obviously set up for gringos as there was no HOT salsa. Service was a little arrogant, but passable. Put that extra money that you would have spent at Papa Chanos, put gas in your car and drive to Sand City to eat at Sarita's on Fremont. You'll get better service, better food, and a cheaper bill.

Papá Chano's is definitely the best Mexican restaurant I have been to. The service is exceptional and the food comes very quickly, and while you're waiting, their pico de gallo salsa is to die for!

I love love love this place! They have the BEST burritos and tostadas! Not to mention that I am addicted to their always made fresh Pico de Galo salsa!!!
For the quality and quantity of food this casual restaurant provides, this is a fantastic value.
Here's the best value I've found: A whole, rotisserie chicken, alongside a plate full with beans, rice, cheese, guacamole, etc. for $8.99! This chicken is 10X better than Boston Market, and could potentially be a good sized meal for three ...
