Stopped by there on the way to Southern California. Took some bread down there, everyone said its the best!!! On the way back we had to fill orders from our friends in Reno, Nv...I am going to try the mail orders, hoping it ...

I will start by saying I really love this place. It is one of the main reasons that I plan stops in Bishop while on the way to LA. The sandwiches are the best anywhere and the bread is very good - and it is an experience. I'm not a critic of fine pastries, but I think they are good.

WAYYYYYY overrated. Baked goods are so-so, but they do have good breads.

Oh I love this place! On our way to Mammoth we weren't able to buy anything (they were closed due to severe weather conditions), but on our way back we stopped by and got some bread and some preserves. I wish there was an Erick Schat's bakery in Orange County! Love the raisin bread.
I have been coming to Schat's Bakery with my family since the early 50's when I was 11 yrs old. The town was small, the bakery was small and in a different spot. I am 62 now and still stop everytime we go thru Bishop. Once or twice a year. The town has grown and so has the bakery. If you miss it then you haven't been anywhere. For baked goods and the best bread of any kind this is IT!
