Beautiful location but sub par food. The steak was overcooked and the prawn appetizer lacked in-depth flavor. Dessert was original but not tasty; sauces on the dessert plate were not complimentary. The wine list was overpriced based on what was being offered. Recommended for ambience and drinks but not food.

The pleasant atmosphere and good service are topped by the delicious cuisine. For a dinner out of the ordinary, try the Game Trilogy. The desserts are amazing. It is tough choosing one. I usually get either the roasted pineapple or the chocolate cake. The "Take Five" is the chef's special tasting quintet that is cryin' shame to pass on.

The only thing the Marine Room has going for it these days is a beach view. Lucky for us, there are better restaurants with a beach view.
The trouble with the Marine Room is their management's arrogance and how that attitude carries through the rest of the staff. Due to mediocre recipes and chefs, the food is only worth about half of what ...

Impressive in all respects

It is hard to decide on what is the highlight of a meal at The Marine Room. The food is excellent, the view breathtaking, and the service impecable (but not overly attentive). It is a great treat that we in San Diego are lucky to have in our own backyard.

Can't beat the view or the food!

My fiance and I went in to have dinner to check it out as a possible location for a large dinner party. Location, location, location! The view is the best in town with the Cove and the California cliffs lit up by the sunset! Since many of our guests will be East Coaster's and from out of the country (France & Japan), we thought the Marine Room ...
"Chef Ron is wonderful in the kitchen, but service is far from what you would expect in a pricey restaurant. The service was slow and unattentive. I was not invited to go back.

Romance at the Marine Room

Enjoyed Valentines at the Marine room and what a nice dinner package they put together. From tables all facing the water, sitting side by side for dining... delectable menu and great piano player.

Highly Overrated

This wasn't at all what we expected from the place that you hear so much about. Of course, the view of the ocean is fantastic but the decor looks like a 1980s hotel lobby. The staff is inattentive and confused most of the time. The food is nothing to write home about. It's amazing what a location on the beach can do for a restaurant's reputation ... it wasn't at all like I expected.

EXPECTED BETTER SERVICE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/11/05
Went ahaead of their seating and sat in the lounge and had a drink, I think they almost forgot about us. Hardly anyone there yet and we waited twenty minutes past our reservation to be seated. Wife asked to be seated near a window and they agreed since it's a first come basis and they didn't even take it into account when they seated us. ...
We went their with friends and all loved the food and desserts and loved being closer to home so appreciated not having to go downtown to enjoy a great place.
