A place you can pop in at anytime no matter where you just came from. Always friendly, fast, in expensive and good tasting home style food. People been coming to El Chavos for more then twenty years. Yah, that speaks for it self! It's a very warm local place to go to!

Honestly never been to El Chavo. Father was raised in Boyle Heights, taking him there now this weekend to check it out. I live in Long Beach area, the best Mexican restaurant in our area is San Pedros Tacos in Hawaiin Gardens across from the casino. Best fish tacos ever!!!!!!!! The place is always busy, authentic food and us mexicans know where to go when we want food like mama use to make!

El Chavo is good but I would HIGHLY recommend to have a tropical drink at the TIKI Bar right next door. Mike the current owner is the son of the founding father Ray. I have been going to the TIKI since my Disco days of long ago, I now live in San Diego but if I am ever in LA ( which I do miss) I stop by and have a Ray's Special at the TIKI

    Enjoy,

    Al

  • The ambience is the best part
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/17/07
The atmosphere is great -- very dark, very boho, lots of red lamps and red decorations, plus a kitschy picture of Dolly Parton by the bar and (the night I went) nice live music. However, the food and Margaritas are just average. Casita de Campo on Hyperion Blvd. in Silver Lake (not really that far away) does it all much better. Plus, this place ...

How can you not like a place with a glowing neon poster of Dolly Parton behind the bar...and the glowing neon margaritas?
    Try the sweet corn tamales!
