Ichiban has some truly phenomenal dishes. Their tempura-fried rolls are fantastic; my personal favorites include the X-96 Roll and the Sandra's Silverlake Roll. However, for my money, it doesn't get any better than their Hamachi Kama appetizer. It's not always available, so cross your fingers.

Since an obvious change in ownership, Ichiban has gone downhill fast. Anyone familiar with their previous quality and service level should stay away and just keep a fond memory alive. After our recent visit, we have decided as a group to never go back. We were forced to wait well over an hour to be seated. A party of 5 is not that hard to ...

  • Food is really good....

Food is really good. Service is lackluster. Prices are about 10% higher than other sushi places in town.

This is my favorite sushi joint in Utah. Granted the prices are not that low, the food is always amazing. For beginners into sushi their Funky Charlie is excellent. Tuna in a flash fried sushi roll drizzled with a sauce that is to die for. The Caterpillar, Mars, Spider, and Death rolls are all excellent as well. Every time I go I always start with ...

If you are an experienced Japanese food eater, this restaruant is not for you. The dishes are truly overpriced, they even charge $2 per person for some "cold hot" tea. Sashimi, beef and shrimps are not fresh that you can tell it wont taste good when you look at it. I think we ordered 10 dishes and only the spider roll is considered ...

  • I dream about going back!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/28/06
I love going on dates to this beautiful Lutheran Church turned Japenese resteraunt, whether it be with my husband or any of my four young boys. Although the young ones might not be too hip on the whole sushi idea...yet, the atmosphere is enough to keep them entertained. Whether you get a table inside, outside on the patio, or sit at the sushi bar, it is an experience you wont forget. I will keep coming back for more!

  • Lives up to its reputation

Excellent sushi served by an attentive waitstaff in a beautiful restored church - and it's in Salt Lake City! Even though Ichiban has apparently been sold by its proprietors to a local Japanese restaurant operator, it retains its usual flair and its unique rolls (easily customizable at your request). Prices are not *low*, but they're not ...

  • Ichiban 1st rate
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/21/04
Ichiban has a great variety of interesting dishes, presented with appealing style. The mussel shooters with quail egg are a personal favorite, and they make a great ice-breaker on a date. The specialty rolls are similarly tasty and fun to eat. It is a little more expensive than other restaurants of its type, but it's not out of line. On the ...
