Don't just go to Rotorua. Go to a Hangi! You will experience the Maori culture as best you can today. If you have a chance to become the Chief of your tribe for the visit, DO IT! This is not for wimps. It is for those who have the courage to stand up for their people. (I, however, was a wimp, and I missed out on some great fun and challenge.) Enjoy your Maori style dinner!
Thoroughly enjoyed the cultural centre there. Marvellous carving and warm hearted Moari people. Beautiful dancing and the bubbling gysers were a once in a lifetime experience. Lot like a moonscape to look at. Definately worth the journey probably need to jire a car to get around though.
If you like the smell of sulfur, you'll love Rotorua! The Museum is good, and the spas are nice. There is a lot of interesting history here. If you've been to Yellowstone, you've seen what Rotorua has to offer, though. This was also the only place in NZ that I had a bad meal.
We traveled three weeks in the North Island and Rotorua had the highest concentration of things to see in one place. This is why over 70% of the tourist's visit Rotorua. Of course you have the thermal activity everywhere - most of which is well worth seeing - once... I visited the two main thermal parks, but we found the college-run park to ...
Although we where only there for 1 wk there was lot's to do and the sights were wonderful.Wished it didn't rain the whole time but still got around. You must take in a traditional dinner while you're there we went to one and it was one of the best experinces i had while i was there, going to have to plan a return trip maybe this time for good!!
The culture, along with the sights and sounds made for a special memory of our trip to New Zeland. Rotorua is unique. Our visit there was not long enough even though we crammed every minute with sightseeing. Next time we will certainly stay longer.
Rotorua is an amazing place but you can't visit just one city in New zealand, if you don't rent a car and drive both islands you are a fool. We started in Auckland, drove in a big figure 8, down one side of North Island, crossed the bay to the South, east coast around to west and back up to the East coast of the North. It was fantastic. The ...
The lake and black swans are enchanting. The spas and open air swimming in winter were right up my alley. There is plenty of shopping, it is close to Taupo and Mt. Maunganui, and beautiful Huka Falls. The bubbling mud and geysers everywhere added a special ambience. The people I met in Rotorua at the B&B's were wonderful - have been there twice and will make it thrice!!! Love this town and think it would be a great place to live.
THIS IS ONE OF THE NICER CITIES THAT HAVE VISITED WHILE TRAVELING.I COULDN'T GET OVER THE FACT OF FEELING SO SAFE. WAS SURPRISED ONE DAY WHEN I HAD GONE TO THE MOVIE, AND THE POLICE WERE STANDING OUTSIDE OF THE THEATER WARNING PEOPLE THAT CARS WERE BEING BROKE INTO.VERY NICE OF THEM.DID HAVE A LITTLE PROBLEM DECODING THEIR ROAD SIGNS AND ...
