  • Not what I expected
    By judynkennyhardin, 05/30/08
Streets were crowded and dirty, people approached us in the market for money.
Food was way over priced for the quality of food served and the smell of raw sewage on market street was sickening.
The image I had of Charleston was far different from the actual city we saw.
Far the most part the people we met were friendly and the hotel was the only ...

  • Nice for a while...
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/08/08
I grew up in Charleston SC and I can tell you that its a pretty nice place if you know what you want to do and where to go. It can also get old very fast.

If you are into civil war stuff you will love it here, but even if thats the case, once you have seen everything thats all there is to it.

Seafood is great here, better than in Florida!! ...

    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 04/23/08
I like the older houses and great to get away from toomany skyscrapers. Love the plantations. Love the market and just walking around all the streets and the waterfront. We are going back in May for the fourth time. -- RV Toronto On

  • Not bad for a 2 day trip
    By Carborius James, 12/31/07
There's lots of stuff to do here, but most of them are far from downtown Charleston. Downtown was rather bland...the historic homes did not impress me. Having been to walking tours through historic districts in other waterfront cities such as San Juan and Miami, I have to say this one was a little disappointing. The area was dead silent, almost ...

  • Charleston
    By Justin R, 12/19/07
Firstly, to the gentleman from New York who complains that he couldn't get a taxi, this is Charleston, not NYC. We do not use public transportation - and wouldn't be caught dead in a taxi! I say this not to sound like an elitist, this is just fact.

As for his complaint about noise, street performers would NEVER be allowed (there is a ...

    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 10/07/07
I went to Charleston for the whole week of the Fourth of July. I felt that overall its a beautiful city but I would only stay for three days because when I was there for seven I got bored after my third day.

  • Awful
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 09/25/07
I read through the other comments- I must have seen a different part of Charleston because my husband and I had a terrible time. The best part of the trip was the expensive hotel in the middle of the historic district- as long as we stayed inside.
Food- we went based on the guides that rated restaruants as "excellent", "lowcountry ...

  • Going back in May

I have been all over the US, and Charleston, SC is my favorite by far. You can feel the history all around you in the buildings, on the street and in the stories you will hear. We have been going every year since 2000 when my daughter was stationed there in the Navy. We missed last year because another daughter was ill and had surgery. We are ...

  • Charleston In Two Days...
    By ebonylady2004, 01/29/07
I have to say this was a really wonderful weekend trip. This city is any experience wrapped into one.

If you would like a family trip, there is a lot of history to this city. The aquarium, Ft. Sumter, Waterfront Par, not to mention the numerous carriage tours.

If you want romance, there are wonderful restaurants, places to just enjoy the ...
