Been there a few times since my step-grandparents live there. The times i've been there its been real bland and boring, we went to the botanical gardens, a supposed attraction, but it wasn't really intriguing. Tt may just be me being used to living in Chicago and Dallas, both lively cities , but Des Moines really does not have much to ...

I love Des Moines!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/24/06
Des Moines is a great city! From the Iowa State Capitol to Downtown Des Moines to Jordan Creek Town Center, this metropolitan area offers something for everyone. The shopping is good too. The East Village, Valley Juction, Ingersoll Avenue, Beaverdale, and West Glen offer great "local" shops. Jordan Creek Town Center offers a lot of ...
We visited the Thyme Remembered Tea Room in Perry - less than 1 hour NW of Des Moines. What a find!! This is a large old house converted to a boutique with a wonderful place for lunch or just Tea & Dessert!

A decent city for the size that it is.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/03/06
Des Moines has a lot for a city under 200,000. We have an exellent park system (Greenwood,Water Works,Gray's Lake, etc). Our music and theater events are very good for this area of the country and state. It may not seem like a city to vist for a person from London, but Des Moines is very diverse for its size. We have a lot of Sudanese,East ...
If all you think of when you think of Iowa is corn and cows it's time to change your mind! I'm always suprised when I come to this city at what it has to offer. During the spring-fall months there are many outdoors activites for families to enjoy. For art lovers they have at least two major art festivals where you can find any type of ...
There are a vast variety of hotels here in Des Moines. You can go cheap or spend alot but there is something for everyone.

Iowa it IS heaven
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/08/05
Des Moines is a great place with a lot to offer. Adventureland is a kid favorite and not bad for adults too. If you can ever make it for the State Fair(August) I highly recommend it!!! FANTASTIC! Living History Farms, the list goes on and on.
Everywhere in Des Moines takes 20 mins to get to. The interstate running through plays a great convenience to time management. Downtown is becoming more chic by the year.
Des Moines is a small city that thinks it is much larger than it is. The downtown is too spread out, it's too hot in summer to enjoy anything, and the few shops that survive are nothing special. Overall it is a culturally bleak capital in a culturally bleak state and region.
