I just went to Coeur d'Alene, ID for the first time to visit some family that moved there from San Diego, CA. Ofcourse I thought they were a little crazy. Who would want to move from the wonderful beaches and weather of San Diego, CA? Well if your an outdoormans, this is the place for you. I'm not much of an outdoorsman but I really enjoyed ...
I visited the area for my honeymoon and really enjoyed it. The area is very beautiful, the people friendly, and the food good. The downtown isn't too big, has some decent art galleries and antique shops. Had a great tri-tip steak at Crickets, and burgers at Rodgers. There didn't seem like a whole lot to actually do there, but it was our honeymoon vacation so none was required :)

Used to be great until........
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/18/06
Almost 14 years ago my family and I move to North Idaho. It was great! No crime, I took walks at night alone and didn't worry a bit. It was pretty and the people were wonderful until the powers that be started pushing this area as a "resort town". Now crime is extreme. A ton of people some good some not have move here mostly from s. ...
I take my family there every year. The town is great and so are the people. There are lots of great restaurants and the prices are reasonable. We enjoy all of the family activities in the area.
The heavy metals from a 100+ years of mining upstream in the "Silver Valley" makes this lake one of the most toxic heavy metal areas in the WORLD. Looks pretty, but has a very ugly secret. Nothing special
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/11/05
Coeur d'Alene and the surounding area is over rated. There isn't much to do, everything is overpriced, there are no jobs and the town was not designed to handle the amount of traffic it has. I lived there for over thirty years.
Loved it there!what a lake and the restaurant are great the cafes make it very special and the atmosphere is through the whole town! there is floting golf course there are boats races most of the summer great place to visit!! the mountains around are fantastic!!

Not much to do
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/04/05
The lake is very nice, but other than not, much to do. Beautiful place to visit, but could never live there. .
Coeur D'Alene is a beautiful resort town. Named one of the "top 5 most beautiful alpine lakes in the world" by National Geographic Traveler. It's growing rapidly, and several high-rises that have been proposed for downtown might really change things. For now it's very beautiful and peaceful - highly recommended!
