Honolulu (waikiki) Is beautiful clean city, however there were just way too many people in a small area. H-1 (the main highway) was bumper to bumper traffic wich caused long delays. Not very fun when you are in paradise. We had the most beautiful weather. The people for the most part were very friendly. If you want the full effects of Hawaii I would reccomend Maui!

Where East meets West

I liked Honolulu so much I just moved here! If you want to appreciate all Hawaii has to offer spend a few days in Honolulu before rushing to a quiet island. If you can, stay at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental for a great calm beach or at The Halekulani for the Waikiki experience. Immediately adorn good Aloha attire and head outdoors.

Tourist Paradise
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 03/11/05
I went to Oahu back in June 2003 and stayed at the Waikiki Circle Hotel where the beach is just right in front of the hotel. The hotel isn't lavish, no fancy decor or anything. But I was gone scuba diving most of the day anyways so it didn't matter. All I cared was a reasonably priced hotel to sleep in, take a shower, and hang out for ...

Hawaii is more than you can imagine
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 02/12/05
Honolulu is a great combination of relaxation and activity. The people here are very friendly, and the culture is warm and laid back. Waikiki makes for fun people watching. It is a great melting pot of people from all around the world. Don't worry too much about your hotel, because you likely won't spend much time in it. Also no need ...
Here are some suggestions and ideas from someone who has lived in Honolulu the last two decades to those visiting Honolulu.
Places to stay If this is your first time, I'd highly recommend Waikiki. Sure, it's a tourist trap, but enjoy it. Just outside of Waikiki, check out the Mandarin Oriental in Kahala. Posh place, but worth it in my ...

Beautiful City
By leslie y, 10/31/07
Waikiki is a beautiful city, hotels and restaurants on the beach. The problem was just too many people. The beaches were full of people. The noise everywhere. I am more of a relaxing person, after all, I just left the bay area to go and relax. Everything is a little more pricier that here, but of course, they ship everything there. So no ...

Hawaii, the beautiful
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 02/18/05
I love Hawaii! My husband and I visit every November. Yes, Honolulu is a big city with big city headaches, but it's all worth it. The people are friendly, the surroundings are quite beautiful and you can get away from Honolulu/Waikiki proper in just minutes and feel like you're in another world. The Bus (which is what it's called) runs ...

great trip
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 12/10/04
Hawaii is much more reasonably priced than people think it is. If you can find a good airplane price, the hotels and activities are no more expensive than anywhere else. Don't let the intimidation of the name keep you from visiting.

The Real Hawaii
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/11/06
My wife and I had never been to Hawaii before. We are both in our early 40's and after years of hearing stories from friends and family who had gone, we finally decided to go. We looked through all the Hawaii travel books in the book store and picked a few things out that we thought we'd like to do. There was one particular tour we did ...
